If it's crap... We'll tell you

A thread for everyones favorite dynamic duo... Dick Grayson and Damien Wayne?!

Three issues into the book and I have to say its been fucking awesome so far with signs only pointing to it getting better. As much as I liked Morrisons run on Batman this is so much more fun and accessible. This new villain Professor Pyg is completely out his fucking gourd in a freaky way. Also the cliffhanger at the end of the issue with the new self professed scourge of the underworld, Red Hood, was awesome and has me really excited for the next arc. Its gonna be tough for Philip Tans artwork to live up to Quitelys but I have no doubt he will do well and the story will kick ass. It seems like Damien has learned to respect Dick more by the end of this story.

What has everyone else been thinking about the series?

Fans may or may not have liked R.I.P but let's be fair, there is no way to bet Bruce Wayne out of being Batman without some fan boys going ape shit. What every one can now appreciate is what Morrison had planned after Bruce Wayne departed as Batman.

Previously, we've been accustomed to a very serious Batman and a very sarcastic Robin but what if roles were reversed? So simple but so sweet. I love Dick Grayson as a sarcastic Batman akin to Damien's overserious and immature Robin. It works on so many levels. One, we get a side of Batman we've never seen before. He's unsure. He feels indebted to Bruce and the responsibility of Bruce's son. This is very different from the initial relationship between Batman and Robin.

We also see a Robin with a certain future. Previously, there was never any real definitive progression from Robin. Either they found another alias or they died. This Robin has a birthright attached. The legacy of Batman has always been a Wayne. Always will be.

I have yet to grab as ingle issue but Ill probably get the TPB when it comes out, if only for Quietly's artwork. I am not a huge fan of Morrison when he is working in the confines of an established universe. I prefer his alternate work, like All-Star Superman and such.

So far Batman and Robin has reminded me quite a bit of All Star Superman. It is a lot more minimalistic and emotional in its writing and of course Quitelys art doesn't hurt.

Quietly's work on The Authority was amazing. What a first 20+ issues that series had- Bryan Hitch followed by Quietly then by Art Adams, all written by Ellis.

I have to say I was unsure of the story as of issue #2, but after reading issue #3 I have to say it has intrigued me. From start to finish I was thinking of how cool the issue was especially compared to the other Batman issue I read today :(

I love Damien. I find him hilarious.

Quitely's art is so kinetic. The movement on the page is really the meat of his genius and skill.

Do you think this is the last time we'll see Pyg?

We see him crucified upside down in Batman #666.. I'm also fairly certain he'll be showing up again anyways. He seemed pretty pleased about being in Arkham. He needs to show up again. Too great of a villain to not be used again.

I liked issue 4 and have been looking forward to the Red Hood arc since the first issue but Philip Tans art knocked it down quite a bit for me. Well, it was a set-up issue and I enjoyed seeing Dick pull a Bruce Wayne at the big party.
