I just re-watched the Iron Man 2 trailer and a horidly snarky thought crept into my head.
"Is this going to be an Iron Man film or an Avengers Prequel?"
Now To start off, I'm not doubting the base level of badassery this movie's going to start off with. The trailer's testament to the fact that there's going to be heaps of goodness for fans to revel in. What I'm worried about is whether I'm going to get to the end of it and think that they could have done a lot more if they cut back on the SHIELD stuff or Avengers allusions. I enjoyed those sly references and after credit tidbits in previous
movies; but now it appears all subtlety has been shelved to shoehorn a subplot.
Not long after, more questions arrive. With the two upcoming movies, Thor and Captain America, how much are they going to contrive to make these movies lead-ins to Avengers? Thor's a fresh slate so anything's possible in that regard while the other is actually titled "The First Avenger" (I see what they did there).
Of course it's possible that they'd put the cart before the horse but is it likely? Is that unseen hand already guiding these two films down a path of mediocrity for the sake of a Marvel Mega Movie down the line? Or do you think that there's going to be someone who will spot it and rein it in before it goes off the rails?
Or is it just me?
