You buy Arma 2 Combined Operations and then you go to dayzmod.com for the best horror survival game ever.

That mod was the reason I bought arma 2... I already logged over 90 hours of game time with that mod. It uses the the chernarus map which is like an 250km2 open world. It adds zombies, a food/water and temperature mechanic. You start with very basic stuff you then find your way into a town and scavenge for weapons, food, a map, hunting gear and medical supplies. And then you survive, Don't trust other player for they often will shoot you on sight or betray you and shoot you in the bag so they can take your gear. The goal is to survive, by wandering the big open world and scavenge what you can whenever you can, or you choose to survive by luring other survivors to a place where you can kill them and take the supplies you need off of them.

if you want to start the mod try getting some friends along with you using teamspeak or Skype. Makes the whole starter experience much more easy. The ingame voice chat still is not working properly for as far as I remember (the mod is still alpha, but a damn good alpha build). There are alot of server that run this mod, but try playing on off hours, during peak hours it is very very hard to get into a server.

As for ARMA 2 itself, it is a great game, I absolutly love it. Some mods are needed to tweak some voice comms and stuff like that but it is definatly worth it. haven't played single player yet though I mostly join the big co op domination rounds on multiplayer. Very team based.

Oh almost forgot... the mod has perma death. If you get killed you lose all your equipment and start over with standard starter gear. This adds so much to the paranoia of the other players wanting to kill you. I usually solo and keep away from the cities, those are hotspots for bandits. I only go in when I absolutly have to (mostly for medical supplies).
