with the most watched sporting event in the world starting in less than two months, i was wondering how many of you out there will be watching the tournament and supporting your teams. how excited you are, or whether or not you'll give a shit about the tournament or the sport in general.

as for me, i cant wait. i'll be supporting argentina all the way through. don't get me wrong, i'll be happy to see the US win. but the great collection of players in the argentine squad was too entertaining to resist.

born in the US, but mostly raised and live abroad. i love both american and european football, therefore i keep having to decide what to call it depending on who i'm talking to lol.
witten, the world cup is the most watched sport in the world with 3.3-3.5 billion fans followed by cricket with about 2 billion fans
...The World Cup is a sport?
sorry but that statement always makes me laugh you yanks play rugby with padding, padding for fuck sake how manly is that.

also in rugby you have to run the whole fucking way, you can't have a skinny guy throw the ball the length of the pitch.

so before you think 'america football' is so hard core try and tackle someone without full body amour and a helmet

(before people react like knee jerk retards, i mean every word i said, but no offense was meant, its just how i see things)
having palyed both, i can say that getting tackled in american football knocks the wind out of you helluva lot more than in rugby just because the tackles are harder and the defensive players run faster, because the game is played in short powerful bursts rather than long stamina driven affairs.

plus, there's more emphasis in rugby to make sure the guy is down in order to switch possesion, as oppose to football where the empasis is placed on hitting that guy and knocking him down right then and there because the entire game is based around yards and inches. so often, touchdowns and games are decided because a player running with the football was tackled and fell a few inches too far or too short.

there's also forward passing in the game meaning you could be sprinting at full speed and catching a football only to get the living daylights knocked out of you by a big defensive player running at you and nearly the same speed from the opposite dirrection that you didn't even notice.
i have heard this argument before, and i can tell you where it falls down. if we were having a sparing match with no padding how hard would you hit me compared to with padding?

you have obviously not played enough, the aim in rugby is to tackle the guy so hard he doesn't want to get near you ever again ( i played as a first row/hooker(hahahahahahah) for a couple of teams), and putting him down before he can go another inch at least that's how i play, you have obvious never tackled a guy off the touch line before, also when you tackle someone properly, you should move them backwards. rugby is a game of inches and yards, but as you said it is also stamina.

being able to tackle a guy who is fully concentrating on catching a ball is like sucker punching a kid eating an ice cream, tackling a guy running at you, with the intent of running through you takes power, and skill, not just your opponent being distracted.

i know this is just a matter of opinion so i am only chatting breeze here, but seriously rugby is a blood sport, a real test of strength, skill and speed, tackling a guy with full body amour, helmet and a cup takes no balls at all, putting your body on the line against another dudes takes ball, i have seen shoulders break, legs snap and neck get fucked up, and that's all with no padding or helmets to stop concussion.

we will have to just disagree buts to me its like saying amateur boxing (eg big gloves and head gear) is more manly than bare knuckle boxing,
in that first paragraph, i meant to say, how safe would you feel hitting me hard with padding than without padding.
how can you compare little Europeans wrestling each other to the ground with this?

Better than being fat eh kiz? I've watch American Football and it's so boring. Also rugby isn't just played by europeans it's a world sport, just one more party the US isn't invited to.

sorry but I have to... GOOOAAAALLLLL!!!!
