Anime English Dubs and Japanese Dubs

I've got one word for you.

"Subtitles."

Sorry, but Anime with Dubs SUCK! I much prefer the subtitles than the dubbed versions. There's been TONS of anime projects that got ruined due to being dubbed by either poor voice-actors. Or an entire cast that doesn't care/understand the material. Oh, and for the record.... you are aware that MOST of the dubbed versions are NOT correct and leave out information?

Now I'm not defending Dubs and I prefer Subs.
But, they leave out info. because they need to fit words into the mouth movements as best as possible.

Its better to get the full translation instead of the idiots version of it.
But even then, I'm pretty sure with the subs... somethings are lost in translation.

There are some dubs that make a real effort to be as accurate as possible while at the same time making the story comprehensible for non japanese audiences, like all the work they put in dubbing the Studio Ghibli films.

The big point I think we are missing here is that English dubs are all relative. For instance, the dub of Yu-Gi-Oh is not the same as the dub for Ghost in the Shell. It all depends on which company is writing the script and who it's geared towards. There are also some examples where studios have replaced the music and I think that is more damaging to the original content.

Personally, I have no real problem with dubs, as long as they done well, whether is english or other language I understand, which would be spanish, my native language, and trust me I've heard some really shitty dubs in it.

The dub of Cowboy Bebop was really good. Also after watching all of Ghost in the Shell subbed then English dub I can say that the English voices were good and watching it in English actually helped me understand some of the complex shithat happens in that anime. I think I have to agree with Madness Mark.

While almost always the Japanese voice overs are much better (because that's where the animation came from), I am sometimes lazy and do feel like reading the subs. I want to just chill out and not have to worry about it I will listen to the subs. However, this is only for certain anime. prerequisite is "If it is a slice of life, the English is not right".

I am a lazy American so I really hate to read. If a dub is avalible and good ill watch it. I love YuYu english dub but i would kill myself if i watched the movies dubbed by 2 other companies.FUNI always has great dubs though. Code Geass the dub is absolutly amazing. I will watch stuff in Japanese though. Naruto, show totally sucks but I am addicted, and Hellsing are 2 examples. As for voice actors I like Steven Blum, Justin Cook, and Crispin Freeman. (If the previous is spelled wrong sorry but again reading not my thing)

Also I can't see where everyone is coming with FMA I watched it 3 times and the dub is not that great in comparison to many other really good ones.
