Anime English Dubs and Japanese Dubs

i deffinatly agree on the idea that alot of english dubs are complete garbage. i'm a 14 year old kid and i liked the english naruto dub.... until the fight with naruto and sasuke at the waterfall. none of the orginal japanese grittyness or coolness was there, it was just another prolonged fight scene. another one is fullmetal alchemist... WHAT THE HELL WAS UP WITH THE ENDING OF THAT ANIME?? thats not even close to how it ended in the manga, in fact the manga is still goin strong. america should just provide subitles and butt the hell out.

Well....the FMA manga doesn't really follow the anime (or the other way around?).....

Some series do that.

ok, let me make a example.

the new twilight movie everyone is SO excited about was a book first, and then someone put it into film (even though whoever did needs to be beaten senceless with a lead pipe then put into a chemical bath for 3 straight days.) its pretty much the same with manga and anime.

if the manga is popular, often times it is made into anime, with is good until america gets there hands it and rapes it with dubbing.

Well, I was mainly talking about the differences between the FMA manga and the FMA anime, which had difference that had nothing to do with how it was dubbed.

That's completely different than something like Robotech where the story is altered specifically for its American audience...or...altered to be a completely different show (Curse you Robotech and your lies!!!). I hope they don't do anything as drastic as Robotech anymore, but for the most part I actually think dubbing is a little better than if you watch some older cartoons, and I'm talking about voices that aren't so cartoony (my opinion, you can dispute this).

I also think it has a lot to do with which one you hear first. In defence of dubbing (just a little) there is some cultural context that you may not get unless you live there or study Japanese culture.

I don't know. Just my opinion....

well i respect your opinion and all but the japanese verson is almost always better sounding than the american versoin because the japanese culture is a hell of a lot more complex than english.

lol. As if the Japanese completely understand our culture....

like I said....I don't think that's so much being complex as much as it is understanding the cultural reference - reference that would make most sense without subtitles or dubbing.

I don't like the editing that happens in the English recuts. But it's undeniable that bad dubbing is part of anime culture.

Some Japanese dubs are pretty awful too like DBZ where Goku voice sounds like Crap. I do like the Japanese dub of DBZ though due to the awesome music.

I'm always pro-original dub. But the FMA is pretty good. (but the japanese is better!)
