Brandon Blaze joined VinnyLT's groupWith sci-fi horror at it's best, these two cult classics go head to head in yet another segment of: movie 'Versus' movie.
You be the judge on which film you think is the better of the two. Will it be Ridley Scott's suspenceful space screaming: 'ALIEN', or John Carpenter's gut churning replicant: 'The Thing'?

Permalink Reply by Jimmy Bananers on February 5, 2012 at 9:53pm I love both movies for their locations and unique monsters but I think Alien was done better.
There is one scene in The thing where apparently Blair or Wilford Brimley aka diabetes man has apparently constructed a space ship under the shack he was being held in. This was the most wtf moment in the movie and I thought shouldn't be in it at all. Is Blair a replicate with the knowledge of alien technology or was he a fucking nut? I kind of liked the idea that the alien ship was taken over by the thing and the owners of the space ship had to crash land it. So making the thing incredibly intelligent or knowledgeable in space craft design irked me. Either way it is never made clear what happens to his character.
Permalink Reply by J. Moriarty on February 5, 2012 at 11:48pm It's hard to pick since both are almost the exact same type of movie, a suspense thriller that is measured out. However, I think I'd give The Thing the slight edge just because at the back of your mind throughout the entire movie your thinking to yourself, "One of them has to be it, but who?". That can mess up your mind more than say "Where is it now?".
Permalink Reply by Artie Fufkin on February 6, 2012 at 7:22am i would have to pick the thing but only just, but i disagree about being millions of miles into space creates more of a felling of isolation, it doesn't matter where you are, you could be in your own home and still feel isolated. but i give you Sigourney's buttcrack though, but Kurt's beard is a close second
Permalink Reply by J. Moriarty on February 6, 2012 at 6:15pm Bad example. In the Thing, they were in Antarctica. That means even if they go outside, they are isolated. In theory you could go outside of your house if you felt isolated, but put your house in the middle of nowhere without communication to the outside world to call for help and then the isolation and terror becomes compounded.

The Thing is more compulsively watchable and has some of the best gore and jump scares ever made but Alien is better made with HR Giger's set design and the iconic freudian horror that is the Xenomorph.
Permalink Reply by MegaJabboy on February 6, 2012 at 1:16pm Alien only because of the bad puppets near the end of the thing and I wouldn't have my deep love for movies if I had not seen Alien at 8 so yeah. Thanks Fox.
