Dr. Rufus posted a statusI sat in school today and (being extremely bored) I decided to set myself a movie challenge: to name as many actors and actresses who have won (or been nominated for) Oscars for portraying real-life people. So far, I've come up with this:
Won:
Cate Blanchett (Katherine Hephburn, Queen Elizabeth I)
Colin Firth (King George VI)
Helen Mirren (Queen Elizabeth II)
Jamie Foxx (Ray Charles)
Sean Penn (Harvey Milk)
Ben Kingsley (Mahatma Gandhi)
Forest Whitaker (Idi Amin)
Julia Roberts (Erin Brokovich)
Phillip Seymour Hoffman (Truman Capote)
Robert De Niro (Jake LaMotta)
Judi Dench (Queen Elizabeth I)
Reese Witherspoon (June Carter Cash)
Nominated
Will Smith (Muhammed Ali)
Robert Downey Jr (Charlie Chaplin)
Kenneth Branagh (King Henry V)
Morgan Freeman (Nelson Mandela)
Jesse Eisenberg (Mark Zuckerberg)
Helena Bonham Carter (Queen Elizabeth/The Queen Mother)
Joaquin Phoenix (Johnny Cash)
Cate Blanchett (Queen Elizabeth I)
Does anyone have any more? If so, name the actor/actress and the role they play. Thanks.

Permalink Reply by Zulzon on October 27, 2011 at 2:41pm How about Daniel Day-Lewis for playing Christy Brown in My Left Foot. The film is from 1989 and he won the Academy Award for Best Actor. And also Leonardo DiCaprio for playing Howard Hughes in The Aviator, film from 2004. Going on Russell Crowe as John Nash Forbes, Jr. in A Beautiful Mind(2001). Denzel Washington as Rubin "Hurricane" Carter in The Hurricane(1999).
-Geoffrey Rush as David Helfgott in Shine(1996)
-Ralph Fiennes as Count Laszlo Almasy in The English Patient(1996)
-Anthony Hopkins as Richard Nixon in Nixon(1995)
-Liam Neeson as Oskar Schindler in Schindler's List(1993)
Man, I could go on forever. I know at least 10 more but I just don't want to say them. If you want message me or I don't know.
