A Game of Thrones and What They'll Do When It Catches Up

George R.R. Martins' a Song of Ice and Fire series is notorious for having the books come out several YEARS apart. Now with the TV series, how do you think they'll deal with the problem of what to do when they get to where the books are? Will it end up like the anime/manga fiasco, with the show having to use filler until the book comes out, or will it do what The Walking Dead is doing and go its own route at some point? I know that this problem is far off to say the least, but they will come across at some point.

They really can't use filler or go off on a tangent. If the books aren't ready all they can do is stop.

Now that the TV series is up and running we can only hope GRRM produces the next book in a shorter space of time, which isn't completely unlikely, it's only the last book that's taken a ridiculous amount of time.

I believe one more book is planned, which is likely to be split into two installments.

you know, hopefully GRRM will just put out the last book, realizing he can make money off of the show, rather than go the WoT route and keep stretching the story out needlessly.  i realize these guys have the right to do what they want with their own stories, but i hate when series keep getting stretched out.  WoT should not be 14 books.  the Inheritance Cycle should have been a trilogy.  and there should only be two more Song of Ice and Fire books...
Actually, he has confirmed (I Think) that there will only be two more, not including the fifth one which is due out in August.
this has been confirmed by reporters in interviews with GRRM . There will only be seven books. And if the show catches up to the books then the show will go on hiatus until hes done. I'd rather he take his time and the books be good than rush for the sake of the show. Although six years is a bit long, whats he writting a 3000 page book?
Have you seen some of these books? They're frakkin huge....
