Some movies we think are good tur out to be bad. And the oppisite is true. So what movie's suprized you in a good way or a bad way.
For me it was Office Space. When my friend first told me about it i thought it was a load of shit. But after seeing it i now know why its a clut classic
I was pleasantly suprised after seeing The Waterhorse.
I was pretty much bribed -coughforcedcoughcough- into seeing the movie with my younger siblings. I didn't wanna go and I thought I was going to absolutely HATE it.
I nearly cried. And when I nearly cry during a movie, It means I REALLY enjoyed it. XD
Or maybe I'm just a total sap for those types of movies. =P
I remember seeing commercials for Shrek before it came out and thinking to myself "That looks stupid, nobody's going to go see that!", and then it went on to be one of the biggest CGI hits ever (I wasn't a huge fan, but I enjoyed it more then I thought I would)... I actually recently said the same thing about Alvin and the Chipmunks, and sadly I was very... Very... Very wrong
Most recently Juno... I saw it before the backlash started to pour in, and really didn't have any expectations for it simply because I heard so little about it. After seeing it, though, I feel in love with it (and I'll defend that to the death)
For the most part, though, I get myself knee-deep in hype and reviews before seeing just about anything, so I've been very rarely surprised by anything of late.
Hmm, this is a good question.
There have been a few movies that pleasantly surprised me, one of them being The Aviator and also Charlie Wilson's war.
I went to the cinema with my boyfriend to see the Aviator because he really wanted to, and I expected it to be really long/boring for me. I actually ended up liking it more than him, and I found that Leonardo was quite impressive in his role.
As for Charlie Wilson, I had no idea what it was going to be. On New Years eve my family has a tradition fo going to the cinema, but they all wanted to see National Treasure (I couldn't stand the first one so i wasn't going to sit through it, watching Nicholas Cage trying to be expressive with his heavily botoxed forehead). So I went to see Charlie Wilson with my grandmother. I was really surprised at teh begining (with the hot tub scene- strange to watch with your grandma lol) but I just adored the whole film.
I expected to absolutely hate Pirates 3, but it was one of the best films I saw last year (and I saw a shitload of good movies last year).
This is gonna sound stupid, but I actually really liked Mean Girls. Goofy and completely absurd, but it was surprisingly clever and quite enjoyable. There was also one moment where I thought, "Man if I were making this movie, I'd hit that girl with a bus right now." And just as I thought "now," a bus came out of nowhere and hit her. I was so pleased with myself.
