If it's crap... We'll tell you

Im a big scary movie buff...

unfortunately these days that means being suckered into watching the next "edge of your seat" thriller just to end up stuck with paying to watch "the hills have eyes", highwaymen", "turistas", "the village", and all other sorts of unmitigated crap.

Then when they do seem to get it right, "the ring", "saw", they have to go and mess it up with crappy sequels.

I guess my question is why is it so hard these days for horror movies to get it right? is it that we have been desensitized and are no longer so easy to impress? is it that directors are lazy and ever more dependant on cgi? what is your take on it? and while your at it, what are your recomendations on good recent scary movies? i dont know, year 2000+

There are movies that tried to be scary, but ended up disgusting you by throwing a great amount of gore at you. One of the most prominent violators is Cabin Fever.

nothing like sticking your finger in a dying chicks puss infected leg to get you in the mood

Or like that hot chick in the shower shaving off her flesh

Or that kid who did random Kung-fu for no reason and bite the hell out of that guy's hand. Seriously, this movie blows.

I rather like most horror movies that don't show themselves in theatres, i think nightmare will agree with me on this. Dead birds was a good horror flick, it wasen't scarry through the whole movie but it was good for those sudden pop ups that made you rewind and see what it was again because it would be stuck in your head for a long time

horror is relative. seems today horror means gore. I dont classify saw as horror its a thriller/mystery. The ring, pulse, descent. are modern horror. Think about 1933 dracula with Bela legousi is a horror classic.

I agree with you but it is in my opinion also desensitization plays the big factor. My grandfather was spooked by Lugosi's Dracula, I am not. My father was scared to death after seeing the Excorsist, I am not. I can't remember when a movies scared me. They can still make me jump from time to time, but so can video games. Hell, they could put an exacutuion on tv and the majority would not be bothered.

I'm so glad someone mentioned this.

"Cut" was on of the most awesome things I've ever seen. Park Chanwook should not be allowed to be so brilliant.

On top of that, I bet he's a really good person. The schmuck!

I LOVE Park Chanwook...I still need to see Lady Vengeance but Oldboy and Sympathy.... are fantastic films...especially Oldboy

As you heard, actress Britney Murphy, who was voice of Luanne Platter passed away this Sunday. She was quite a talented actress who was also best known for movie roles such as Clueless, Drive, Happy Feet, Sin City and 8 Mile.
