The Ghost Who Walks

What TV Shows Have You Been Watching Because of a Lack of Good Movies?

Recently, it seems that a lot of good writers have been writing for television recently. Even novelists and comic book writers and Hollywood directors are getting in on the action. In many ways the quality of shows seem to be far much better than many of the movies that have come out over the past several years. So, I am curious about what shows people are watching and why? I am not saying there aren't any good movies, but they just are few and far between.

I would say that TV is pretty crappy for the time being. As far as new shows go I've only got two, Terminator SCC and (sadly) American Gladiators. Watching Gladiators is for the sheer hilarity of it. Idiocracy, here we come. I miss Lost =(.

American Gladiators is great. It could be better I admit. What we need to do is combine American Gladiators and Ninja Warrior (Sasuke) to make one freaking Awsome show... We'll call it... Impossible We'll have the Competitors only do events where they go Head on against the Gladiator. If they beat the Gladiator we'll let them go to the next event then for the final round we'll burn the "Eliminator" to the ground (this eliminator is just stupid.) and we'll use one of Ninja Warriors (Sasuke... And don't even think about Kunoichi... that show is stupid.) Round 2 obstical courses. And IF... IF by some miracle you win we'll offer you a a large sum of money and a contract with some company as the spokesperson. Sorry for the rant.

Well, I guess that is true with the strike and all. I think I had pre-strike TV in mind.
I agree that Terminator isn't as bad as I thought is would be. It has introduced some interesting concepts. The " flesh bath" at the end of the last ep. was a bit groan worthy. I can get into the time travel thing, but that was a buit out there for a show about time traveling robots. HA!
Anyway, Dexter is coming to network soon and BSG will be on soon enough.
Even the dull and painful Tell Me You Love Me has something to that recent movies had been missing, originality.

I haven't watched American Gladitors since I was a kid and I don't miss it.

I forgot about the blood bath....point taken. As for Dexter, I never got into it simply because it was on at a sad time in my life when i couldn't afford movie channels. Yet, i'd still stay away from the syndicated versions on Network TV as they will obviously be edited for content.

They've been airing Jekyll episodes, but I keep missing them.

Jpod isn't as good as I thought it would be.

Extras is very entertaining.

Recently strayed from both film and current tv to watch a show that Fox stupidly removed from the air a few years ago. Arrested Development is one of the best television shows I have ever seen. I got hooked a couple weeks ago and due to a lack of other commitments I watched all three season (53 episodes) in 5 days. Yeah.... it's that good.

Yeah, Arrested Development was brilliant!
Well, Fox has a history of cancelling great shows! The Ben Stiller Show, Firefly, Wonderfalls, etc. They really know how to murder a great thing.
I wouldn't tell anyone to watch a watered downed version of Dexter. Just wouldn't be the same.

I never heard of Jekyll or Jpod, but I am a fan of Extras. Even the American version of the Christmas ep. was pretty good. It was was different because it was quite dark, but it really won me over in the end.

I guess HBO and even Showtime have really upped the ante. With shows like The Wire, DeadWood, and Six Feet Under, I am usually underwhelmed by network shows in the drama department. I do think Lost is kinduv cool. I can't stomach 24 and I won't give Prison Break a try. But NBC has the comedies on lock down. 30 Rock got me hooked. The Office is pretty good as well.

I can only take Arested Development in small doses. This is largly due to the fact that whever I think Arested Development I think back to the band. It just Irks me that when I say "hey do you remember Arested Development?" everyone talks about the show. Other t han that I get a chuckle out of it occasionally but I'll never like it.

Celebrity Rehab. It's so devastating seeing Kenicki from Grease not being able to walk without a cane, due to alcoholism. Grease Lightening he is not anymore.

But, I LOVE LOVE LOVE Ghost Hunters on SciFi channel. And now they are International! Even if they brought abck that squeaky little Andy doofus back for the show ... I still love it. :)

No one has been writing for television recently.

Actually, I don't really go for TV in the present tense (cept for BBC News, The Daily Show, & The Colbert Report). It seems like the only shows I've gotten into have been through DVD and not until years after they air.

Some of the more recent ones include Firefly, The Sopranos, Lost, Ghost Hunters, Nick Frost's Danger 50,000 Volts. And I check out my roommate's podcasts of X-Play.

By the way, there's never a lack of good movies. You just have to know where to look. ;)

Yes, I am well aware of the strike but I was speaking in general. There were movies and shows being written until about 80 days ago. So, I think I managed to view some shows before and after the strike via TV, DVD, and the internet before the strike until present. Also, I am a fan of a couple of the shows you have mentioned and I have got to know them through DVD.

I do love Colbert and The Daily Show. It seems that Colbert is fairing much better than Jon during this strike. It looks like he is struggling a bit.

I concur about the movie there's never a lack of good movies, but I grow tired of being disappointed when I have to wade through this endless mire of mind numbing, rehashed, hyped, spoon feeding junk to see one
good movie. The writing on TV just seems to have an adavantage over movies recently.

As far as Well written TV. I really liked what I saw of Tin Man. I can never watch things on Sci-Fi because I always end up having to do something and forget what time it's on. Meh.
