If it's crap... We'll tell you

For those who think they might know what happened...

Origin (theory 1) - Adrian Veidt kidnapped a group of scientists and modern artists to design and create the creature, then unleashed it into NYC as a means to end the Cold War. (News doesn't travel very fast in Antarctica)

Origin (theory 2) - My roommate thought the monster could potentially have escaped from the capsized tanker, supporting the possibility of a man-made monstrosity.

Origin (theories 3 & on) - Most other theories are mentioned in the film. I favor outer space myself.

The bugs (theory 1) - The bug creatures were spawned by the monster much in a similar way to how the 1998 Godzilla reproduced.

The bugs (theory 2) - They were parasites living on the monster.

Marlena - Speculation about Marlena's fate depends on which theory about the bugs you take to heart. In the case of theory 1, I wondered if the infant monsters could reproduce in the same way the giant did, leaving thousands of microscopic insects in her wounds to tear her apart from the inside. Favoring theory 2, the creatures bites could've been its means of reproduction, but their small size didn't cause the monster much harm.

Tough fucking monster - The monster survives mortar, missile, bomb, and nepalm attacks throughout the film, and depending on what you think happens afterwards, possibly even a nuclear strike. This guy's either got some really thick skin or he has the power to regenerate. I favor the second one, cuz I'm pretty sure I saw a limb burn off during the nepalm scene.

Any of your own?

Matt Reeves reportedly said this in a coded quote, "Watch the skies, my friends. Watch the skies." I guess, if true, it implies that the thing came from space.
And honestly, i don't care how many people whine and bitch, but this is one movie they could actually make a successful franchise of films out of.

Whining and bitching about what? I loved all the questions I was left with. You seriously could make a whole series based just upon these questions (though I'm not sure it's advisable).

I can't tell you have many friends i've talked to who think sequels, prequels etc... would be a waste of time and how this is a movie that should just stand on its own. I didn't mean you were the one whining.
And why wouldn't it be advisable? I think it would be great and a whole list of ideas comes to mind. Anyway, there will definately be a sequel at the very least, when you consider the fact that studios always think with their pockets.

this might be at the very end of the movie when beth and rob are on the train, they turn the camera to the beach and near the top right corner of the screen by the boat, something falls out of the sky. i also like dogs

Aparently thats the japenies satilite that fell out of the sky and woke the monster

When he said "Watch the skies, my friends. Watch the skies, he was talking about the last scene, when Beth and Rob were at Coney island, when she said she had a good day. if u look closely at the scene where they were shooting footage of the sea, right next to the boat there was this litle black speck that came from the sky and it crashed into the water and made a bigg splash. if u have the dvd, its easier to see rewinding and when its going up again,. look closely, me and my cousins found it the second time we watched it ;]
this might indicate that the government sent it into the ocean, and purposely created 'cloverfield'. Anosther theory is that it came from space, since it came from the sky... however, wouldnt it be likely that someone caught the monster coming down to earth, dont they have government eyes on the sky?? im more for the first theory, but you decide for yourself ';]

I have an origin theory, that i can't recall being stated in the film. Or maybe it was because as i was writing this i have a vague recalling of it being there... oh well.

Slusho is a company that makes slushy drinks. Rob just so happens to be the new vice president of slusho, it is not mentioned but his brother is wearing a slusho shirt, rob is going to japan for his new job, and we know slusho.com was made for cloverfield. Anyway slusho's special ingredient is Seabed Nectar, which is harvested at the bottom of the ocean by drilling machines. The Monster was living at the bottom of the sea and gets disrupted by the drill feeding off the seabed nectar and goes up to the surface to see whats happening. It feels threatened by the machinery and destroys the drilling platform and starts swimming west toward america. It goes to Manhattan and then cloverfield begins.

If this origin checks out it means that there is more than one monster. And japan is going to be really busy cleaning this up. hmm... BFM [ Big F'in Monster ( Cloverfield)] vs. Godzilla vs. Gamera vs. Mothra

vs. The Host

dude The Host was an awsome movie but he was way too small to pose a threat to the cloverfield monster. Same with you Predator. You are cool but unless you use your wrist-nuke, i dont think you could do much. Maybe if you brought a whole army or stayed in your spaceship.

Yeah but the Host could infect it with the brain virus or at least cause it enough civil unrest to spell its own doom.
