The worst thing about this movie is that the way a friend of mine described it to me made it sound awesome.
He said the movie was basically a documentary in which a film crew went around informing various celebrities that Paulie Shore had died, and then video taped their responses, most of which were negative. According to my friend even celebrities that Shore considered good friends did nothing but talk shit about him after hearing he died.
This idea sounded brilliant so I went out and rented this movie with much enthusiasm.
My friend was either talking about a different movie or he was high off his ass when he watched it, because in reality it's just an incredibly unfunny movie made by Paulie Shore himself about how much he sucked.
I didn't make it to the end, and I made it to the end of Anaconda.....
God, I blind bought this based on the many good things I heard about the movie. Sadly, it actually turned out to be one of Paulie Shore's less funny movies...which really says a lot.
That's what I don't understand, somehow this thing got positive word of mouth, it's fucking awful.
What the fuck is wrong with people?
How do Paulie Shore, Dane Cook, Adam Sandler, Ben Stiller, Justin Long, and Carlos Mencia have careers? Who the fuck likes these hacks?
"We are the facilitators of our own creative evolution." - Bill Hicks.
I think my generation was just so stoked to have Paulie Shore back in the world that they all jumped all over this movie.
What can I say about little Paulie? Here's my story.
For some reason, he was very popular when I was in school. I remember when it got to the point where he was churning out at least one movie every damn year, plus voice acting and TV spots.
Of course, he got his own TV show. As I remember, it ran a two part pilot and dissapeared. And that was the last I saw of him for several years.
It was like watching a black hole form. The massive bloated wieght of his carreer could not be supported by his singular dimensioned character acting. The whole structure imploded and seemed to take Paulie with it. And no one cared. No one ever asked why they never saw him anymore. I didn't even notice until years later when the sightings began...
And that's how I describe them. I first noticed on Late Night with Conan O Brian. Limp Biscuit was performing their first single about cookies and there he was...hopping around the stage with the band. I thought I had halucinated it. Then again on a pizza commercial. And it just keeps going on like that....
