Ok, here goes a good list of movies to check out.
Macross Frontier (Might be listed as Robotech)
Megazone 23
Akira (With subtitles and not dubbed)
Appleseed 1
Ghost in the Shell 1
Outlanders (If you can find it)
Ninja Scroll
Grave of the Fireflies
Metropolis *2002 version
Tokyo Godfathers
And the one you ABSOLUTELY have to track down and watch
I dont watch that much anime but I used to watch YuYuHakusho when it was on Toonami. Its a realy cool show it has a great story. I used to think that the spirit gun was the coolest thing ever. The guy shoots lasers out of his finger!
Strange, I thought someone would have said Rouroni Kenshin by now. Maybe not the most high end, sophisticated piece of work but certainly worthy of a mention among a selection of Full Metal Alchemist, Evangelion and Dragonball Z.
For me, one of the most entertaining long running series that I have seen and the OAV prequel is very beautiful.
It has been a long time now since I updated myself of the latest in anime since I don't have the time anymore (I will crossreference to another discussion; "How to tell if you are getting old").
Best of all times is a bold request and I find it impossible to even try.
Apart from the usual anime classics, I always thougth Serial Experiments Lain was pretty haunting when I saw it, many many years ago.
I will also always cherish that first anime I ever watched.
I had ordered a pirate version of "My Neighbor Totoro" on VHS from some shady nerd but upon highly anticipated viewing discover that I had been sent "La Blue Girl" instead. An honest mistake of course...
