Now that the original is out on DVD, I don't have a problem with them trying to redo this one. I figure if the new one sucks, then I'll just watch the DVDs of the original. If it's good, it brings it to a new generation that probably hasn't seen it.
This has a lot of potential. I'm usually anti-remake, but they could do so much with this one, if they do it right. I was so into this when it was on the air, and still watch it online (most of the first season is on Veoh, if anyone's interested), but it's VERY dated, and some of the dialogue wasn't exactly the greatest writing. Great premise and good story lines, though. I think Mark Singer and Robert Englund are going to be reprising their roles, and I'd like so see most of the original cast return as well. I had the hugest boyhood crush on Diana (Jane Badler), yeah, showing my inner geek there. They could do the 'lizard' makeup so much better now, just hope they stick to practical effects as much as possible.
Not at all like re-doing the A-team, especially with some of the original cast coming back. From the looks of it, it's going to be a 'next generation' type thing, not a total remake. You never know how things like this are going to turn out, good like Battlestar Galactica, or just silly like Knight Rider. We'll have to just wait and see. I'm almost positive Christian Slater was never on this show.

I hope they stick with the holocaust story lines, and not go after something like Terrorist. If they can still keep the story in that setting, they will completely rock people's socks off.
Yeah, there's no denying the effects are SO dated now. But what do you expect? I mean 1983, on TV? It's going to be cool to see how they update the effects provided they keep the CG to a bare minimum. I'd really hate to see a CG lizard instead of a practical effect.
Glad I'm not the only one who likes practical effects. I have to say, though, the work they did with the ships still holds up very well, on par with what ILM was doing at the time. I just think CG is overused these days.
I liked the holocaust story lines too, and the whole Elizabeth/star child story arc. In the pilot, there was a brief hint to another race that Visitors were at war with, and that could be an interesting thing to explore as well. Like I said, so much potential.
This is one of the negative side effects of Galactica's wonder. They keep grabbing shows like Knight Rider and Bionic Woman and try pulling a Galactica on them. Ive never seen V but have always been a little interested in it. Hopefully it will be more BSG and Less Bionic Woman.

Out of all the 'older' TV shows, this is the one that I'm surprised the most at NOT being done sooner. You would have thought that a Mini-Series would have been the best tool to use. If it is a hit, then you can do more... if it fails, it's just a mini-series. Couple of nights and it's out of the way without getting anyone truly upset about it.
The problem with Knight Rider and Bionic Woman is that they weren't very good shows to begin with. Galactica had a great story, thus the remake survives as a staple of Sci-Fi for four seasons.
I know that there has been a crappy record of TV remakes. Just look at NBC which has been constantly trying to revive Hunter for an eternity. But V? Heck, I'll give it a shot. However, as good as the original was, this remake is either going to suck hard or kick ass. Here is hoping it will kick ass.
No, but I think it was his first memorable gig. He did all sorts of bit parts on shows like CHiPs, Simon & Simon, etc. He was also in some low-budget horror movies before V as well, like Tobe Hooper's (the guy who directed the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre) Eaten Alive.
Interesting trivia: He tried out for the part of Luke in Star Wars (that would've been interesting), and his father designed the U-2 spy plane.
