Will IRONMAN and THE DARK KNIGHT be the movies that cause the shift to Blu-Ray?

Will these movies be the ones to cause the move. The whole reason I wanted dvd player was for the Matrix. Now Blu-ray will come into the house along with a 1080p tv just for these 2 flicks. All in all they're gonna cost me well over 2000+/-bucks. the transition is on in the Vire household.

actually there is something called red ray. Its comin out at late 2009. its diference is that it has a higher resolution 4090 x 2080 damn! thats a higher resolution than digital cinema!
Yeah it's inevitable, something will come after Blu Ray, something will always come later. But Blu Ray in my opinion is already the next format and it's going to be here for a while. Seriously what other format is going to come and take over Blu Ray, it wont happen for a long time.

First off DVD was a huge success because it was on a disc as opposed to a tape, dramatically increasing the quality. Laser Disc VS. DVD soon occured, but it wasn't a big battle, DVD won easily.

Here we are in the era of HD programming and films. Blu Ray beat HD DVD, so now it's standing alone with no competition. Blu Ray is probably delivers the best HD quality (1080p) available right now. Hundreds of studios have already started transferring thousands of their films onto Blu Ray. If a new format came along within the next months or a couple of years it would force studios to stop and transfer them to the new format, and since they are already going Blu Ray crazy, they wont want to.

People complain and say it isn't worth changing DVD to Blu Ray. I most definitely see the improvements made with Blu Ray, the quality is crystal clear. Imagine another format coming up to replace Blu-Ray, there will be even more of an outrage because people probably wont see the difference between Blu Ray (1080p Full HD) VS. whatever the hell they come up with. I see Blu Ray lasting about a decade or more, because what else are they going to do to improve the quality of the film.

People argue direct downloads and video streaming is the next big thing, but seriously it's called "Home Entertainment" and "Home Theatre" for a reason. You want to get the experience you got in the movie theatres, to the closest degree possible. And watching a film on a laptop or computer just minimizes that experience. Even if they managed to get the download to the TV, I bet good money that many corporations will oppose digital downloading of films.

Look what happened when music was available for digital download, the music industry over the years saw a huge loss of income with their primary source of sales: CD's. People were downloading music illegally like crazy over the internet, and still are as of today. I'm taking the film industry has learned from this, and since a good portion of their income come from DVD/Blu Ray sales, they will refuse to go to video streaming/downloads. There are digital copies that come from some DVD's and Blu Rays, that are protected by some copyright functions that don't allow you to make extra copies, but people are finding ways around that.

So overall, Blu Ray is going to be the next big thing in my opinion. Because: what's going to challenge it? Studios will refuse another transfer in a short amount of time. People have already purchasing tons of Blu Rays, and companies have made thosuands and continue to do so. The price is gradually falling for both the players and the movies. The next format would have to go agaisnt 1080p HD quality, and since people are already complaining they don't see a difference from DVD to Blu Ray (you people are blind!), think how much more people will complain saying they don't see a difference from Blu Ray to whatever is next. We are now the peak of home entertainment, so what's going to challenge Blu Ray? I have no clue, might as well start the transfer.

I might post this up somewhere else lol, just to see what people think about the next format.
The next step would most likely be HDTVs that can display the full 2:35:1 aspect ratio. Of course, that's a small complaint at this point as only big budget movies are shot at that aspect ratio and the black bars aren't that noticeable on 16:9 TVs opposed to 4:3 TVs.
Oh, you mean laser-disks? Yeah, those things were huge.
haha yeah man, they were the size of a damn frisbee!
you also had to flip lazer disk over.
Blu ray needs to be cheaper if they want people to jump ship
Prices of Blu-Ray players have dropped faster then the prices of the original DVD players did.

Most see that many Players will drop sub $200 by the end of Jan of next year to capitalize on all the people buying Digital TV after the switch to digital.
yeah DVD had a much higher price when it came out
