Am I the Only One Who's Seen Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins??

There was a reference to this on LEOG this week. I'm excited someone besides me has even heard of this film.

Back in 1985, there was a little known film that caught my attention. I watched it on one of those HBO free weekends to convince you to get a subscription. Having missed the beginning credits, all I saw was a guy drown in car, only to be reborn as an uber-human assassin working for Uncle Sam.

The film, of course, is Remo Williams, starring Fred Ward (The Right Stuff), Joel Grey (Broadway's Cabaret and Jennifer Grey's dad), and Kate Mulgrew (before she was Capt. Janeway on Star Trek Voyager). Tough to say whether the movie stands the test of time, but before there was Matrix, before Batman knew martial arts, there was Remo, the government's ultimate weapon against those who were beyond the law.

I've never read the Destroyer book series, on which this was based. But I can say that I'm happy to catch Remo on late night reruns every now and then. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend a rental.

Before I get tons of comments saying how cheesey it is, just remember, it's 1985, before even Top Gun.

I love this movie more than oxygen. Joel Grey is the best damn sensei ever!
I laugh so hard at this movie every time I see it.
Classic. I was pissed when I finally realize that the Sifu that was teaching Remo...was a white man in yellow face. That was bullshit.
I had the chance to watch the never-picked-up TV pilot online. It's truly, truly horrible. Joel Grey was replaced by Roddy McDowell (Planet of the Apes, and Fright Night). At least the movie has since become a cult hit.
I loved the movie when it first came out. I'll still watch it if it's on TV now. It's something that's lost some of it's appeal with age, but I still watch it for a good time.
Ive been on a big retro/classic hunt at my local video stores....I have a lot of respect for these old films because i think the best way to figure where film is going is to see where its been.....I also have a lot of respect for film makers that don't have the "advantage" of CGI...but then again my all time favorite action movie is Road Warrior so that probly says a lot....Thanks for the suggestion ill check it out
If you like the movies you'll love the books.
