Favorite comics: This changes as creative teams change, but as of this writing:
The Immortal Iron Fist
Astonishing X-Men (Warren Ellis)
Ultimate Spider-Man
The Walking Dead
Uncanny X-Men
New Avengers
Scott Pilgrim
How do I get my friend/girlfriend to read comics?
Fables is a good way to start, but they need to give it at least 2 trades before they make a decision.
Buffy. Chicks dig Buffy.
Ultimate Spider-Man is usually a pretty good way to go.
The Sandman - this one is probably the most successful 'gender-crossover' title in a male-dominated medium.
What are the best horror movies around?
These may not be the scariest. They may not even be the best, per se. But they're my favorites in no particular order (and are completely subject to change).
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (the original)
Halloween (the original)
Night of the Living Dead (again, the original)
The Brood
Jacob's Ladder
The Thing (John Carpenter's remake)
The Exorcist
Zombie (Lucio Fulci!)
Bride of Frankenstein
Brides of Dracula
Favorite Video Games:
Mario Kart
Oblivion
Gyruss
Sinistar
System Shock 2
Ico
Battlefield 2: Modern Combat
Grim Fandango
The King's Quest series
Chrono Trigger
Star Wars (original arcade)
WarCraft 2
Hey Jason, What did you think about Bubba Ho-tep, I liked it as a horror/comedy movie, and it combined two of my favorite things about horror Don Coscarelli and Bruce Campbell.
Obviously, I'm not Jason. However, I want to give my two cents about this movie. I remember when I rented Bubba Ho-Tep and I was actually hyped to see it because Bruce Campbell is hilarious and Ossie Davis as a black JFK? I'm there! I took it to my best friend who was a big Evil Dead fan and we watched it and our verdict... meh. It's decent... not great but decent. I really didn't see what all the fuss was. I guess it was all the Bruce Campbell fans praising his performance but I felt like maybe I had missed out on something. Everyone was telling me how funny it was, how good the villain was, how much of a tragic story it is but it all came off as mediocre.
I liked got into it more because I love the phantasm horror movies, and it is directed by the guy who directed them. Also the Bruce Campbell as Elvis Commentary track is really funny.
That flick was good, but not great. I'm a fan of so many of the elements involved - Elvis, Coscarelli, Lansdale, mummies, Bruce - that I thought it should have been a bit better. I think they were hindered by a small budget. Still, it's a crazy ride that any lover of cult films needs to see.
JASON-Can you "Name That Movie" for me?
Can't remember what its called, because I was so young when i saw it.
-made in the late 80s i think
-featured a teenage called Archie who was being bullied and works in a morgue
-the bullies die and come back as zombies
Hmmmm. Haven't heard the Kasdan/Robotech rumor. The Forbidden Planet thing seems pretty solid, though. I'm okay with remakes, to be honest, even if the original is incredible.
