Far Cry 2..
Hi there folks..
Kinda suprised there wasnt a thread up about this already, as Far Cry 2 is looking to be pretty amazing, even with titles like BF: Bad company and Call of duty 4 knocking about..
For those who havent heard of it yet Ubisoft decided to set this game in Africa, in contrast to the previous game which was knocking about on a tropical island.. and they appear to have done an absolutely cracking job with the game.. note the appear i'm not completely sold yet as they always look amazing, however the more I see the more it appears that it wont do an oblivion on us.
The backstory for the game is centered around the hunt for the arms dealer responsible for the destabilisation of the unknown african country the game is centered around, from the offset you're able to choose to play as any one of 12 characters.. each one has their own individual stories but the one you choose is the one whose story you wont see that time around, the other 11 can become ''buddies'' who will offer advice on contracts which you work through to progress the story and if you're close to dieing they'll come along and save you.
The game is in a huge area with no loading screens at all.. apparantly. The total unlockable ingame area was last reported to be 50-square-kilometers with environments ranging from desert plains to dense jungle to mountain terrain..
Weaponry wise you got the usual stuff for a modern day shooter.. however, and I might be wrong on this correct me if otherwise, this game is the first to include guns that'll jam in the middle of a firefight (which is affected by the quality of the gun). And to top it off you got yourself a flamethrower.. while at first that doesnt sound so remarkable you have to take into account that this game will feature what appears to be the finest fire physics ever.. with the ingame wind affecting how it'll move as it burns and weather and material play a part too.. say your in the dense wet jungle the flamethrower aint going to do diddly squat..
Another thing which'll be a first for the PS3 and 360 will be the inclusion of a full on map maker which if you want to see the latest vid on it..
Really looking awesome..
Course it looks awesome..
So, what do you guys think? Will Ubisoft pull it off and force you to part your money for ze game?

I wonder what cuts they're making to the console verisons. I hope they dont touch the destructable trees or dynamic weather system. Wonder if they'll include custom soundtracks for the PS3 version.

Hey Kamelmann what system are you gettin it for? im not sure if I should get it for pc or 360, btw nice disscussion, I fear ill spend more time on the map editor than the actuall game as I was addicted to the one in Far Cry Instincts :)

that was my idea since alot of my friends will get it for 360 but the difference is that my pc will run it as i spent a shit load on it so ive got a bit of a dilemma.

Ok so I was looking around for the original vid from the lepzig game convention and ubisoft helpfully put it up on their site (finally)..

Video's right at the start using the 360 mapmaker.. well worth a watch to see how amazing it will be.. it even shows at the end the Effiel Tower one of the testers made using pipes..
I so cant wait 2 months damn it!!!
