From the trailer it looks like an honest to god biopic, and not another excuse to hate G.W. And that's a good thing. No reason to watch a movie about the life of someone just so it can tell people what they already thought about them, right? If it were just going to make fun of Bush 2 then they could have just condensed it into a MadTV skit, right?
Apparently Stone says this isn't a parody, but a "a fair, true portrait of a man".
I first saw the trailer when I saw Pineapple Express....the entire audience (me included) were howling with laughter,I kind of felt bad,but I don't know it could be could, hell,it could be great.
I just watched Nixon 2 weeks ago.. I don't think Stone is a genius but he did a good job.. Ill definitely watch this. See if he gets right how much of a fuckhead Bush and his cronies are.
First of all, this movie is a work of fiction. Granted some stuff portrayed about W’s life will be undeniably true (pretty sure his dad WAS a former president, he did marry Laura Bush, he did convert to Christianity, etc.), Stone has injected a lot of dramatic elements to create a largely biased, if not completely false, representation of actual events. Anyone who walks into the theater expecting to witness the truth or have their political beliefs validated, is about as dumb as anyone who thought that “Titanic” or “Pearl Harbor” were documentaries. “You mean there there wasn’t really a precious gem or a poor stowaway who fell in love with some chick and drew her naked?! I feel so used!” Well, if it’s any consolation, I’m pretty sure Kate Winslet’s boobs are real. Anygay, if the film is any good at all–that is, when judged from a strictly artistic perspective, regardless of historical inaccuracies–I think that only a reasonable person will walk out thinking “Well, that would be interesting if it were the truth, but I know that it’s just a movie and not a history lesson. Most of that was dramatized BS.” Nevertheless, in all likelihood it’ll probably suck–I heard the schedule was absurdly tight, just to get this thing done in time for release prior to the election. Well, anyway, that’s my two cents. I gotta go watch the “West Wing” to figure out where I stand on gun control. Peace out!
I didn't know what it wanted to be at first, but I'm pretty sure now. I saw the posters, and it's trying to be a comedy. Honestly, he's a year too late. Ever since the election everyone's been tired of George Bush jokes. It's all about McCain and Hilary jokes now(whatever is left, at least).
I know. I appreciated it. I just wanted to add my two cents about the movie in general. I meant it more in response to people who expect any truth to be unveiled by this movie.
My first reaction, hearing that this movie is going to be make " Oh F*ck"! But, when i saw the teaser, it didn´t look any bad at all. Brolin is Bush and Dreyfus is Cheney, this could be not a bad movie!
Well, after i heard about this, i was thinking WTF! Oliver Stone is a great director, but why a Bush biopic? But when i saw the second trailer, i am amazed by the performance of Brolin. He will be the Golden Globe Winner, of the best actor.
This is what actually happened. He was a drunk and a mess up until he got his act together and gained power over the course of the years. the casting is spot on and this isn't going to be the assult on him that we thought it was going to be.
