Movies You Enjoy But Others Don't (Or The Other Way Around)

Now, I've noticed something about movie-loving communities that is understandable, but somewhat annoying. In a movie community, everyone is harsher on a movie, and I understand why. They see more movies and gain a harsher view when they see newer movies. But they also watch some classics everyone is supposed to love and conclude that they're great despite their flaws.

I like the prequels. I don't love them, but I don't hate them either. It's not as good as they original series, but they're better than many other movies. Now, I can be called "retarded" or "insane" for liking those movies, but what people on this site(and other movie sites) seem to forget is that the majority of the general population has no problem with the films. Normal people like them, maybe even love them.

Now here's an example of a "classic" I hate; Rocky Horror Picture show. It's a fetish movie with Tim Curry in drag... not my idea of a good time.

Anyone else have feelings like this?

It was nothing more than a rip off of the kitchen scene from Jurassic Park.

I never like Ran. It put me to sleep and I saw nothing amazing about it unlike Akira others movies like Seven Samuri and Ikiru which I love.

I did enjoy Dreams since it had a well done art direction to the movie like no other in 1989.

I actually like Howard the Duck and not in an ironic way. It's a movie that just is what it is, goofy and fun. I like the prequels, too. I agree they're not as good as the originals, but I enjoy them. I actually enjoy them more than other "epic" sci-fi series like Matrix, Pirates and Lord of the Rings. Those movies are good, but they seem a little pretentious. Also, I know I'll get blasted for these comments.

A movie I don't like but others do, Dogma. Let me just say, I loved Clerks, Mallrats, and Chasing Amy. But I did not like Dogma at all! I felt as though Smith was beating me over the head with a steel pipe about his views on Catholicism, and as a fellow Catholic, I felt less is more. So you want to show the irony of having a women's clinic worker as the main protagonist, George Carlin as a Cardinal, and Alanis Morisette as God. But I was annoyed by that, and Salma Hayek and Chris Rock. The only character I seemed to enjoy at all was Alan Rickman's character. But somehow, people think this is his best movie. Because it pokes fun at Catholicism. Sorry, but the last word on religious satire is Monty Python's The Life of Brian. Sorry Smith. You gets no snoogins for Dogma. Hell, you even called it Dog shit, whether jokingly or not.

Movie I liked that others somehow hated, The Boondock Saints. Everywhere I look, people know the family prayer, and I thought it was a bad ass thing for them to say before the wasted a dude. Maybe not quite Ezekiel 25:17, but bad ass nonetheless. Despite it's cult following, people seem to be down on the Saints for being a Tarantino rip off, and I didn't see it that way. I just thought it was a nice little juxtaposition of vigilantism, mixed with Irish Catholics, and a wacked out cop who is gay, yet seems to have no problem using gay slurs. Yet people really hate it. I know it's not Pulp Fiction, but I never saw it trying to be that, and all the people who say it is a parody can't convince me.

There you have it.

Oh, I was unaware. Unfortunately, I've never seen it, but I had only ever heard good things about it.

As you heard, actress Britney Murphy, who was voice of Luanne Platter passed away this Sunday. She was quite a talented actress who was also best known for movie roles such as Clueless, Drive, Happy Feet, Sin City and 8 Mile.
