Just finished reading "Waiter Rant," by the mysteriously-named "The Waiter." This book is an extension of the very popular blog of the same name. Our hero worked as a waiter in an up-scale NY City restaurant (dubbed "The Bistro") for six years, and uses his experiences as fodder for the book. Fans of the blog are not being treated to a reheating of blog writing - the chapters are original, even if they do borrow some blog stories from time to time.
What starts out as a very funny look into the restaurant world from the point of view of the industry's foot soldiers quickly becomes something more. "The Waiter" has a genuine gift for writing personally - he's never the archetypical hero nor villain. He's human, and the reader should have no problem identifying with the fears and frustrations, even if the stories make your jaw hang open. {My jaw dropper: a lady having a stroke in the restaurant and some yuppie-scum insisting on being seated at their table, even though they would be in the way of the paramedics.}
This is a quick read (just a few hours) and very entertaining. In Spill parlance, it's "Full Price." Enjoy.
