Hello everyone! I am a huge fan of your website guys and love watching the reviews, but I am really glad to see that people are really getting into dicussing and talking about movies, anyway.... I would like to discuss the return of music and dancing to cinema. I mean, for the longest of time the musical threate was I guess in exile, I think the last musical on screen I saw was 'Singing In the Rain' and that was a specail screening, of which the house was empty.

So why the return? I mean look at High School Musical *shudder*, Hair Spray *awesome*, Across the Universe *better then sex*? How does one explain this? I was watching so you can think you can Dance the other week and I think one of the hosts got the nail on the head when he said "Dancing has been in the darkness for so long, people have forgotten what it feels like to what people dance, like really dance, not rubbing up and down against each other, but dancing in a way that tells a story." I must agree and the same applies for singing as well, one singing there heart out in moments of heart break, love, sadness, lust, greed, evil all that jazz. With fanastic music and lyrics supporting them as they prance around the screen. I mean, my heart was racing as I was watching Hair Spray, and I honestly couldnt stop smiling. I watched in wonder at Across the Universe, and well as for High Musical, I may not like it, but it is showing the kids what they have been missing out on.

Agree? Disagree? What do you reckon guys?

I know this may get some people angry, but it's a proven fact so it must be said.

Dancing, in all its shapes and forms, in any guise and in any culture, is fucking stupid.
Yes, but it's fun, and sometimes sexy.

Tango!

Oh...this post is old. Whups
For me personally, I've always enjoyed musicals. I grew up watching Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly movies. Hell, I even made my parents take me to get tap dance lessons. As far as this return of the form to the theater, I think it, like everything else in entertainment, just comes in cycles. We get bored with one thing and then momentarily fascinated by the next and eventually it all comes around again.
I tottally agree, I mean, I think its just because we hadnt had it for soooooooo long, like 3:10 to Yuma which starts next week (damn the snail ozzy cinema), with the Western movie. I am really glad its back, thanks for posting a comment btw Cyrus.
I want MORE musicals. I am always amazed at th array of talent a lot of Hollywood A-listers have when seeing them dance and sing on the screen. Who knew that the ultimate hottie Ewan McGregor had such a gorgeous voice? I melted in the theater while watching him and Nicole Kidman in Moulin Rouge. Catherine Zeta Jones and Renee Zellwegger were outstanding in Chicago (even Richard Gere and John C Reilly faired well in that movie). ONJ and John Travolta in Grease? ONJ again in Xanadu? Wizard of Oz? Sweeney Todd? (Depp was alright at least he took a chance ... but HBC floored me with her singing!) Willy Wonka? Mary Poppins? Muppet Movie? West Side Story? Sound of Music? I can go on and on. But if these musicals had never taken the chance of being on the big screen, this world would be so boring in comparison. Fa-la-la-la-la!
