Worst Book You have ever had the displeasure of reading

For me it would have to be any of the books in the "Flowers in The Attic" series by V.C. Andrews

The first book was pretty meh but each book that followed got worse and worse, and my sick need for closer made me power through them.
The woman can't seem to make her characters evolve at all. The way they are written when they are 11 are the same way they are written when they are 36.

She loves ending ever sentence in exclamation points! To the point were they lose all effect.

She also writes every character as a complete whore or a sick stalker who can't move on with their lives.

She also falls into the trap of making characters impossibly beautiful, every single character needs a 9 sentence paragraph describing how wonderful they look. This would not be that big of a deal but they do it 15 times for every character. If you took out character descriptions all her 200 page books would be 5 page pamphlets about being overly dramatic.

Twilight comes in a close 2nd

I had to read a book of short stories for college. One of the stories was a twisted tale of snow white and the 7 dwarfs where Snow White was a hooker and the wicked witch was her pimp who was tracking her down after she ran away. She ends up running into the seven dwarfs who are cocain dealers who all take turns sleeping with her. I never understood why the hell we read that.

that actually sounds better than the real version

First, let me do the distinction of classic literature vs shit that floods my bookstore.
While I might dislike some classics, I obviously can't say they are worst books ever because their influence on modern literature is far too big, for good or for worse. So. Not touching the classics.
That being said, let me proceed to shit that floods my bookstore. and there is so much of it, I can't pick just one book, or one series, I just can't. I'm having too much masochistic fun with crap literature to just step away.
But, so far, the winners are:

Twilight series.
It's the cancer that is killing literature. In dire need of chemotherapy. I read better fanfiction than this piece of stale cow shit. And Bella is a Mary Sue the size of Empire State Building. And furry pedo action? SWEET JESUS JOSEPH AND MARY!

The Southern Vampire Mysteries, by Charlaine Harris
You might know it as the books True Blood was based on.
It's Twilight prototype. 'nuff said.
I don't care what you think about the TV show but the books really are shitty shitty shit.

The Wheel of Time
Yea yea, come all ye haters. The first one was good. The rest? Well, hm, it sells, people think it's great, I'll proceed to wank with my newfound glory and jizz sequels till the day I DIE!

Silmarillion
Boring as fuck. Another wankfest courtesy of the author.

Written in Bone, by Simon Beckett
It's the second installment of Dr David Hunter series. It's about a forensic anthropologist. First book was interesting, second was just dull and disturbing.

Everything Dan Brown ever written
Bored housewives seem to dig his books, inbetween watching daytime television. Understandable, considering all of his books match bored housewife's intellectual level.

The Historian, by Elizabeth Kostova
A bastard child of Dan Brown books and Twilight.
Mary Sue character? check! "BIG MYSTERY?" check! Lots of travelling? check! Vampires who just do not die in sunlight? check! No research on the culture and places described in the book? check!
The last thing really pissed me off. The author did NO RESEARCH whatsoever. AT ALL! At least Dan Brown reads stuff on wikipedia before writing a book. This woman doesn't. Lazy.

I could go on, but I think this will do.

I have kind of a love hate relationship with this one... Atlas Shrugged. I think that some of the idea Rand plays with are interesting, but she doesn't always do a good job of integrating her ideas into the story. Probably the worst part of the book involves one of the main characters blocking all other radio signals and proceeding to give a speech on the evils of socialism and nihilism (if I remember correctly). It sounds very V for Vendetta-ish, but the speech goes on for roughly 3 HOURS. I think I actually came close to Hulking out just from checking to see just how much longer that bit was.

I forgot the name of the book, but it was about some man beast from outer space that was loose in the Roman Empire, and a guy in a space ship goes down to Earth and team up with a Roman soldier to capture it. The only thing I remember reading that book was that I was never interested and was confuse as to what was going on. It was not good, at all.

Matt, Jack & Jon are three eloquent young gents. They philosophize, externalize, and harmonize on the most pressing subjects of the modern age. Actually, they mostly just talk about movies and current events, but the presentation is what counts.
