If it's crap... We'll tell you

Worst Book You have ever had the displeasure of reading

For me it would have to be any of the books in the "Flowers in The Attic" series by V.C. Andrews

The first book was pretty meh but each book that followed got worse and worse, and my sick need for closer made me power through them.
The woman can't seem to make her characters evolve at all. The way they are written when they are 11 are the same way they are written when they are 36.

She loves ending ever sentence in exclamation points! To the point were they lose all effect.

She also writes every character as a complete whore or a sick stalker who can't move on with their lives.

She also falls into the trap of making characters impossibly beautiful, every single character needs a 9 sentence paragraph describing how wonderful they look. This would not be that big of a deal but they do it 15 times for every character. If you took out character descriptions all her 200 page books would be 5 page pamphlets about being overly dramatic.

Twilight comes in a close 2nd

I generally dont finish books i dont like and consequently, have not finish alot of books. But when i was in high school i had to read Madame Bovary I HATED that book. It was pure torture ...F*ck, just thinking about that book still pisses me off. Damn advanced English classes...

Hannibal by Thomas Harris - I kept reading (and waiting) for it to get good, and it never did. It was like Harris didn't want the novel to get written, and really didn't want the fame associated with his characters, so he frakked with all of them. Once Clarice became Lechter's willing toy, I sped-read the rest and threw the book across the room.

I did the same thing, kept thinking it was going to improve. Eventually there weren't enough pages to maintain the hope and disappointment set in. Harris is a marketing whore.

All of his works are vastly overrated, in my opinion, but I didn't think that Hannibal was any worse than the others - and the Clarice/Lechter relationship was foreshadowed from, what, the very first time she is introduced?

I started reading this book I found in a spooky backwoods cabin. It was so stupid, some dipshit scribbled all over it and it wasn't in English. I think it was Chinese.

Flowers in the Attic isn't THAT bad. Yes she does devote a lot of space to character description but too much is much better then not enough. Yes the characters do change over the series. I doubt you even read any of the other books in the series. I really enjoyed the series, and the series after that as well.

Only books I hated that I can remember at the moment are War and Peace and My Brother Sam is Dead. Both were much to slow for my taste.

What are you talking about good sir, you hate War and Peace but love the Flowers in the Attic series. I said the first book was okay, but the rest of it was crap.

If you think Chris changed from being a sister obsessed mommas boy at any point, you must not have read the series. And Cathy stayed crazy and vengeful against her mother, and slept with every man who showed any interest. I will not even go into Carrie (who talked like a 5 year old when she was 16, and was still naive and trusting even after years of abuse by loved ones).I won't go into Bart or the rest of their children...all of which are perfectly beautiful and brilliant btw. None of them could just move on with their lives and I didn't even mention how cliche and horrible the stories were. The mother just always happened to find them or they happen to find her.About the character descriptions I would argue that too much is just as bad as not enough both are two ends of the spectrum that detract for the book. I will admit that in If there be Thorns the series started to pick up a little and the characters do change slightly , but the last 3 books are still pure crap.

The way they were in flowers in the Attic is the same as in pedals in the wind and the same as they were in If there be thorns and seeds of yesterday, I didn't read the last book because it was a prequel and wasn't finished by her.

So, lemme get this straight, because a single character with an obsession does not lose his obsession, the characters do not change and are all flat?

Perhaps you are having difficulty with the meaning of 'obsession'?
