This summer some friends and I are trying to watch as many films as possible from a list of films my friend Stu created.
There are 2 lists he made, 1 we call 'The Outside List' and the other 'The List'! The Outside List compiles all the movies mentioned on 7 top movie lists and marks down how many times each movie appears.
The List, or The 'Ultimate' Top 100 Movies takes all the movies from the original 7 lists that have appeared on more than 3 occasions (shown on The Outside List) and puts them together, conveniently creating a ranking list of 100 movies (actually it was 103 movies, but we rejected the 3 lord of the rings films as we had all seen them, and meh!).
The outside list is ordered alphabetically, and uses a points system.
0 points/tally = the movie appeared on 1 list
1 point/tally = the movie appeared on 2 lists
2 points/tally = the movie appeared on 3 lists
3 points/tally = the movie appeared on 4 lists
4 points/tally = the movie appeared on 5 lists
5 points/tally = the movie appeared on 6 lists
6 points/tally = the movie appeared on 7 lists
In other words simply being on 1 of our sources lists puts the film on our Outside List, being on 2 of our sources lists begins a tally for that movie.
So far we've enjoyed watching films from The 'Ultimate' Top 100 Movies list (The List!) and from the Outside List that we wanted to see. I'd like to hear your comments on both lists and maybe what you've seen from either list and what you thought.
On the outside list there is 'raiders of the lost ark' and 'indiana jones and the last crusade', but no, they wern't on enuf source lists 2 make it to the ultimate top 100 list and i agree with that, i dont think they deserve a place there.
I am yet 2 watch Citizen Kane thou, so idk!
(btw sry bout spelling mistakes in the lists - i know there are loads!)
as easy as it is to call Stanley Kubrick the greatest filmmaker of all time, its just as easy to call Edward D. Wood Jr. the worst of all time. i respectfully disagree. Mr. Wood might not have made the best movies in the world, but for his passion f…
Not just independent or foreign films, but also off beat or smart films that challenge viewers to think critically about directorial method or subject matter.
