Ratner to bring video game to big screen...

In the press release announcing the next RoboCop film, MGM mentioned that Brett Ratner is attached to direct the upcoming God of War film (with RoboCop writer David Self set to write the script). This is the first official mention of Ratner directing the film.
However, no word can be found of this movie recently, until May 2008, when it was suggested that Brett Ratner can direct the film.
Its not official that Brett Ratner is directing the film but only time will tell and we'll see what happens.
On the casting side of it, everyone immediately shouts “Vin Diesel!” as they always do with anyone bald and/or muscular (Hitman), which would be awful, and will not happen (I hope). Thankfully the rumors are for a much better candidate, Djimon Hounsou, who apparently was/is in discussion for the part of Kratos. Hounsou is a really talented actor and would certainly work visually, but I would be skeptical of his voice, which doesn’t fit the game character’s at all. This is all nothing-ness really, but it is worth mentioning to get everyone all caught up on the God of War happenings.
Most importantly is, this can’t be a Brett Ratner movie. It has to be done by someone with the visionary skills to really bring that world and those characters to life, not someone who can find a silly and hilarious sidekick for Kratos to fight Olympus with. Hopefully, the studios will see how Bioshock brought in a fitting director and find someone cut out for this one! How about… Ridley Scott? He could dip into Gladiator methods and reach back to his more sci-fi/fantasy days and throw it all into one bowl! Or maybe Robert Zemeckis? Edward Zwick?
