Personally, I loved it like I love accordion. They cut out all the stuff that bugged me about the original and gave an epic fantasy somewhere between Lord Of The Rings and Princess Mononoke (with just a dash of the original Ninja Turtles movie). As always, the conflict between structured civilization and chaotic wilderness hit close to home with me, and there was a perfect balance between CGI and practical effects (the Troll Market made me feel like I was back in the eighties, when epics still wowed me).
Plus, how can I possibly dislike a movie featuring the line: "I'm not a baby, I'm a tumor."
I loved it. It wasn't without its flaws (its length and the two moments in the end that just make you say "why didn't you do that in the first place?") but it was one hell of a fun film. Shame it'll most likely get pushed to the side rather fast due to the Dark Knight coming out next week.
i liked it. i noticed there were a few nods to the lord of the rings/the hobbit. i think del toro will do fine with his next movie, the hobbit. also noticed hellboy was watching frankenstein, del toro wants to do that movie after both hobbits. i thought the effects and characters were great. something was missing , i cant articulate what it was though. i think it will get plowed by dark knight too.
I guess some of you are going to hate me, because I didn't like it, and I really tried to, because I loved the first movie. But this one is dull, and while it has some cool parts -I really liked the prologue with the puppets- and a bad-ass villain with a good motivation -you don't get those very often- this was a let down for me. Hellboy as a character is still very cool -drunk Hellboy was a lot of fun- and I appreaciated the visual aspect of the movie -Troll Market rocks- but is the story department that needed more work.
