Final Fantasy makes sense. I didnt consider that one. Plus their is like 50000 versions of that game on the system.

Final Fantasy is not a mascot of Sony's Playstation series. For one the first six games were originally made for the NES and SNES systems. Two the company that creates it is a third party (Squaresoft/SquareEnix) and therefore is not a mascot as both Mario and Master Chief are made by their main company and (now former sub company) own by the main party (Nintendo and Microsoft respectively). Technically one could say that Spyro is not a true mascot as Insomniac was independent of SCE until it sold the license of Spyro thus making it not a "True Mascot" but why I'm I harping that detail. However if we want to mention games that are non mascot known how bout the SOCOM series, Wipeout, Arc the Lad, Twisted Metal, Syphon Filter, Hot Shots Golf even are games known for being on the system and are made by SCE.

Well lets start off with some classic companies (just make sure to correct me if I am wrong) also I am only picking series made by Sony Computer Entertainment:

Sony Computer Entertainment or SCE has given us many mascots over the years from different publishers that it owns.While you are right that Crash and Spyro both were the first series synonymous with the Playstation just before the launch of the Playstation 2 they decided to sell their licenses and move on to two new sets of characters.

Jak And Daxter is a series of games made by Naughty Dog after they stopped making Crash Bandicot games where Rachet and Clank games are made by insomniac the creators of Spyro. Other companies making mascots during the prime of the PS2 was Sucker Punch, the company that gave us the Sly Cooper games. As for the console's bad ass Kratos from God of War series (made by SCE's Santa Monica branch) fills that category perfectly. As for a music game let us say that Sony was one of the first to bring music games to consoles with its mascot PaRappa the Rapper. If we want to make a stretch which can say that the mind controlled monkeys from Ape Escape could also be mascots.

hmmm all good points. I forgot all about Ape escape i used to love that game. but i wouldn’t consider it the mascot. I think the fact that they sold the rights to Spyro and Crash kinda takes them out of the race. It has to be something you only see on that system.
God of War, as much as it kicks ass, hasn’t been around long enough to take the roll.
As for PaRappa the Rapper and Sucker punch... I just don’t think they count.

Why wouldn't they count? PaRappa has been much longer than God of War and there were two Sly Cooper games out before even the first God of War game. Not that this has any impact on why they are mascots now it is just the common trend of muscle clad men (mostly SPACE MARINES) are our new heroes. You only really see Crash and Spyro on the Playstations unless your talking about the unsuccessful GBA games created before the PSP but every Sony company had one of those.

but to be honest i barley remember sucker punch and i think it has to at least be memorable. I guess if you really push it PaRappa could count, it is kinda a classic and playstation was the first one to put out a game like that. But still i won't consider it a mascot.
