If it's crap... We'll tell you

Comedian George Carlin, famed for his routines about drugs and dirty words, died of heart failure at a Los Angeles-area hospital Sunday, a spokesman said. He was 71.

Carlin, who had a history of heart and drug-dependency problems, died at Saint John's Health Center in Santa Monica about 6 p.m. PDT (9 p.m. EDT) after being admitted earlier in the afternoon for chest pains, spokesman Jeff Abraham told Reuters.

Known for his edgy, provocative material, Carlin achieved status as an anti-Establishment icon in the 1970s with stand-up bits full of drug references and a routine called "Seven Words You Can Never Say On Television."

Carlin's comedic sensibility often came back to a central theme: humanity is doomed.

Carlin, who wrote several books and performed in many television comedy specials, is survived by his wife Sally Wade, and daughter Kelly Carlin McCall.

My bro just came in and told me about it I got real sad he was great.

He, along with Lenny Bruce & Richard Pryor, was part of the Holy Trinity of Stand Up Comedy. RIP, Mr. Carlin; I hope you meet all those Uncle Daves.

I memorized his routines as a kid. He was a comic genius in every stage of his life: Hippie reformist, Cynical observer, Cranky nihilist. There will never be another performer like him.

R.I.P. George, and thanks for so many laughs and things to think about...

This man was one of the main reasons I started watching stand-up comedy.

R.I.P. George Carlin.

I woke up and this was the first thing my Dad told me. Each day I take a moment of silence to remember all those who passed away that day. As one of my favorites, Carlin will definitely be on my mind during that time. His comedy, social commentary, and personality will be missed. I wish his family the best.

I just heard about his passing. I will miss him deeply. Now the Two greatest stand-up comedies are dead(the other being Richard Pryor three years ago). Those two mother f***ers could make be laugh no matter how bad a mood I was in. I truly hope they are laughing their ass off together in the afterlife now.

for such a prolific and controversial comedian the news of his death was just a freaking footnote! A Paris Hilton pap smear would have gotten more time in the headlines than this deceased genius, it pains me that he never did see the world turn into that steaming pile of shit he predicted.

RIP George, i hope you found whatever you were looking for
