I completely agree, the only reason I'd like a graphics update on the first Silent Hill is because sometimes I'm completely taken out of the moment by Harry's hilarious running.
silent hill games have never been intresting or truely scary, i dont know why people are like silent hill games are so great, they are all boring games with awful combat and an meh story
The fact that you call the story 'Meh' seems to suggest that you haven't actually taken the time to figure out what is going on, but rather than leave it at that, I'll support the polarized point of your assertion.
for this, I'll refer to Silent Hill 2 and 4. 2, because it is generally recognized as the greatest of the series installments which presently numbering at six if one includes Silent Hill Origin, and 4, because it is recognized for having one of the best stories of the entire series.
In 2's case, it was more the nature of what happened to you while you played the game. Not You as in 'James, the man you play as', but you as in 'Hey You, with the controller in your hand'. What most people went through, while paying attention to the events of the story (which I will not recite here on the off chance that someone wants to play the game for themselves... which they should if they haven't already!) was to look in on themselves and wonder how they might have reacted to many of the situations posited by the game's events, both implied and played through by the player. Jame's decisions are obviously at the top of the list, but there is also the actions of the other characters which warrants consideration, from the transformation Eddie goes through, to the bratty innocence of Laura. Watching and slowly learning about Angela's past and what brought her to silent hill is equally chilling. Silent Hill 2 isn't just scary because of the situations you must play through, but because of how disturbing yet feasible its ensemble of miscreants is.
Silent Hill 4 might be one you skipped if you're not a fan of the series, but it warrants a visit from anyone who is interested in story telling via the gaming platform. Without spoiling the events of the story, I can promise you that the events are deep enough to safely dive head first into. You're greeted by a cast of six well rounded and heavily explained characters, some of whom you come to know incredibly well despite only a small number of interactive scenes involving them. On top of that, you're invited into a complex origin story revolving around the psychologically intriguing Walter Sullivan. By the climax of the game, you know Walter's dark motivation, and facing off with him is a truly frightening prospect.

I'm sure I forgot something that'll bite me in the ass later.
