If it's crap... We'll tell you

So, I was thinking about movies that usually get critically beaten down, but as time moves on, it creates its own entity.

A prime example is Scarface. That movie was considered horrible in 1984 and now, it's still one of the most talked about movies about how great it was and etc.

Now, mine is EVENT HORIZON. I saw this when I was younger and I was freaked out. I didn't even understand the concept then, but I do remember the critics panning the movie. Now, when I see it, it just stands out. Horror/sci-fi movie (really disturbing) and I think it's a little before its time.

Another thing that I find crazy is that Paul W.S. Anderson directed. Really? He can actually pull a decent movie out his ass?

Well is there any movie that you saw recently or was panned when it came out, that you look at with better appreciation now?

First let me say that I am a big big fan of Event Horizon.

One of the finest examples of a movie being received with negative reviews and through the years proving itself again and again as an amazing movie is one of my favourite movies of all time... Blade Runner.

When it came out it was received as being Predictable, having uninterresting characters, a great movie to look at but hard to care about and being filled with clichés. In short a waste of time.

Pretty funny when we see how it is viewed today huh..?

Yeah. It makes ya wonder what recent film will become that in the next decade.

I think the first way to find it is to look for a crappy movie with great dialog. If it has that, it is on the right track.

I am hoping that the new Star Wars movies will be accepted by the general public as worthy parts of a greater saga. As I see it Lucas had no way of fulfilling the garagntuan expectations people had to those movies.

I agree about the newer Star Wars movies. At least Lucas didn't take the easy way out and just carbon copy the original trilogy. They aren't perfect but neither are the originals, it's all about the attitude you have when you watch them.

Totally agree. I believe if you hype a movie up to some crazy standard, you'll never enjoy it. I try to go in without expecting too much and go from there. It makes the movies stand out better.

But when it comes to star wars, we all should at least the decent, like no Jar Jar, no no minichloride, and no long boring politics boredom

Mallrats!

Mallrats actually gets worse each time I see it, which is unfortunate because it was pretty lousy to begin with. That said, Jason Lee is still the man.

Im surprised you say that chig. You seem like the type to have an allegance to Kevin Smith. But Mallrats was one of the worst he made.

You know, most people are shocked to find I can't stand Kevin Smith. I find his movies to be pedestrian, arrogant, pseudo-intelligent, pretentious, and generally unfunny.
Especially Dogma, woof, what a stinker.

As far as allegiance goes, there's only two directors I pledge allegiance to, and that's Kurosawa and Eastwood. Everyone else is on notice. Double secret probation!

I gotta agree with you about Kevin Smith movies. I had a roomate who failed to have his own personality so all he did was quote from Kevin Smith movies. He came close to me punching him in the eye.
