If it's crap... We'll tell you

The Democratic primary is getting interesting. Obama's got more states than Hillary but her few states are key states (New York, California, New Hampshire). This puts her ahead of Obama but it's still anyone's race. I live in Virginia and our democrats are divided. While most of the liberal dems are in favor of Obama, Hillary is using the pull of her name and status as a woman to try to give her an edge. I'm not being discriminatory, but that's how it workd with common people. My mother wants Hillary in the Presidential race because she's a woman. I'm very dissapointed in her.

Obama is what we need. The Republicans know they can't win the Presidency if Obama is running. They want Hillary because the Clinton name carries a lot of baggage with it in the eyes of the people. A large part of her success is the endorsment of her husband Bill Clinton, who most of America loved. Obama is getting by on raw political drive moreso than Hillary, has pwned several other democratic candidates in discussions, and had made use of the media to get his name and face out. The Superbowl, the Daily Show, he even has the approval of liberal political shows like Bill Maher. Don't let the fact that he's making you laugh fool you, Bill puts forth a lot of politics and logic.

I sound like I'm pushing Obama here, and by and large I am. I'm a liberal democrat, I feel that Obama is the best hope for change in our government. If you don't agree with me, please feel free to put forth your argument for Hillary or another democratic candidate (this is a democrat thread after all) and make your case. Let's get a political dialogue going, eh?

In closing, Obama for '08!

I'm from Chicago, and by law we're required to vote for Obama.

But even then, I think Obama is the candidate that will win the White House from the Republicans by appealing to the widest demographic. Most people are already decided on Hillary (they either love her or hate her). Obama will give the Dems the independent voters that will beat McCain.

That said, ANYONE, imho, is better than McCain aka Bush 2.0

Can't say that it matters very much. They've both been bought by the same people so the difference in policy will be minor at best.

Neither. I wouldn't vote for anyone. All these candidates are terrible. I mean people don;t even know what they are voting for? You think people actually research each candidate's policies? No, they judge by looks, gender & the way they talk. What? What!? Yes, it's true. Even I am guilty of that. You want the actual reasons people are voting for specific candidates, here they are.

1. People are voting for Obama because he is black, no it's not the other way around, people really are voting for Obama because he's black & it's something new. Everyone wants a first black president. THAT will show the world how fair us Americans will. That is what we are thinking.

2. People are voting for Hillary because she is a woman & has the Clinton name. Everyone knows that her husband was a great president, that's why people are voting for her. And again, having a woman is something new, it just depends on what makes us seem more fair, a woman or a black man.

3. People are voting for Mccain because he is the only picture president. He fits the demographic. Hes an old, successful white man. He fits. Those people will vote for Mccain because they are not used to, or do not believe in things that are new & untested.

Again it's not about fucking policies. It's about how tall they are, what's their color, are they religious, what's their gender, do they like chocolate, etc. America is fucking stupid & it's about time people should realize that. Can anyone here even name 5 policies from the candidate that their voting for? Probably not, so before you vote, ask yourself, why are you voting for Obama, Hillary, or Mccain.

of coarse no one voted on policies, unless the policies are just so out there that they warrant a second glance. Policies aren't all that important anyhow since we arent in a dictatorship. The president doesn't have absolute power to create policy out of thin air and the plans, promises, and policies of the campaign trail rarely, if ever become reality once in office.

What really matters is how the candidate comes accross to you the voter. If you feel they're genuine (or as genuine as a politician can be) then thats a plus. If thier history seems human (mistakes and all), and if they run thier campaings efficiently.

That last point is very important because the candidate that can run the most efficient campaign just might be able to run a country,

I knew i was an Obama man as far back as 04 when he was running for senate in Illinois, before I even knew he was black allI knew was that his name was too close to Osama and he wouldn't win. Then one day I heard of him on the radio and they talked about his autobiography and I thought, damn, that was a good idea to write that before running for public office. It pretty much took the piss out of the news media in Chicago when they tried atacking him on the coke issue. During the Senate race I began to like the man, and as one whose fed up with old politics, he seemed like the likely choice.

I'm not voting on his policies though I do think he has decent ideas on economic issues (I would like to hear a little more on that as well). I agree we should leave Iraq, just not entirely sure its possible or will be when he gets in office. I also dug the higher education plan of letting students work community service while in school to counter the costs of the loans. Thats a top issue for me and a lot of other young people out there who have to go into debt for years just to afford school.

Clinton seems capable but I just don't think its right for 2 families to be in the white house longer than they have.

McCain is just 2 old, I think he'd be a great President, but I feel he may die in office

Alright this is a grand example, feeling that Mccain is too old to be president because he might die in office? It's like saying Obama shouldn't be in office because he's black, & since he's black, he's more likely to be shot. How about Hillary shouldn't be in office because she's more likely to develop breast cancer. Does that make sense? No.

Why shouldn't you vote for policies? Why should you even vote if you're not going to vote for a candidate that shares the same views & ideas as you? That is just stupid.

simple, because a politician can say ANYTHING when they're running for office man. There's no way for us to really know what they think on all the issues so all we're left with is what they DON'T say, the body language and thier actions.

Whenever an issue has come up that would seem to be a huge nail in Obama, the man has stood tall and gone straight at it in the grace and cander I expect from any who lead, while Clinton tries her best to sidestep it. McCain has been fortunate that not much attention has fallen on him yet but we'll have to wait till the general for that.

This tells me what kind of man Obama is, and that's far more important than any policies. And like i said before, his thoughts on education, and Iraq are enough to win me over.

For me, I love the visuals and the great acting by Jackie Earl Haley, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Patrick Wilson. There are other reasons, but these are the ones that stick out the most for me.
